Installation

        – which area the installation will take place.

        – whether there  is currently a door that needs to be removed first.

A Garage Door will only work as well as it is installed and installing the right door for the garage starts with correctly measuring the garage.

The garage measurements are used to specify what size garage door and garage door hardware is required or whether your vehicle will fit in the garage once the garage door is installed. All measurements are taken from inside the garage facing outward.

• To determine the right/left hand of a garage door we always look at the opening, door and all hardware from inside of the garage looking out.

• LHS = Left Hand Side | RHS = Rigt Hand Side

• Measurements in millimetres only.

1.Daylight Opening – Measure the Height and Width of the opening, these are the inside dimensions of the garage door jamb.

2.Nibs – Measure the clearance to the Left and the Right of the Garage Door Jamb. LHS = Left Hand Side | RHS = Right Hand Side.

3.Headroom – Measure the headroom above the top of the daylight opening.

4.Backroom – Measure the backroom. This space is needed for the tracks and an open door.

5.Obstruction – Take note of any obstructions or other objects that will interfere with the garage door track or its operation. The nearest obstruction may be something such as pipes, support beams, heating ducts, lighting, drop-down stairways, etc. Obstructions must be taken into consideration in the headroom, side room and backroom measurements.

6.Power Source – When automation is being considered, a 15 amp, 3-pin plug point must be available exclusively for the door motor and should be positioned within 1.2m of where the operator will be secured.

7.Alternative Entrance – If there is no alternative entrance an emergency key release needs to be installed with the automation.

8.Is the Structure Finished? – If not, the sizes taken will not match up with the final size once the structure is finished.

Daylight opening industry standards:

Single Standard: 2440w x 2135h (8 ft w x 7 ft h)

Double Standard: 4880w x 2135h (16 ft w x 7 ft h)

Warranty 

• Brano Industries Pretoria (Pty) Ltd. provides a 12 (twelve) month walk-in warranty on all products, except for couplings, batteries and travelers – these are sacrificial parts and carry no warranty.

• Labour components carry a 3 (three) month warranty.

What does the Warranty cover?

• The Warranty covers any defects in materials under normal use during the Warranty period.

What will be done to correct the error?

• Brano Industries Pretoria (Pty) Ltd. will either repair or reset the product using new or refurbished replacement parts that prove defective because of improper materials under normal use and maintenance.

What is not covered under the Warranty?

• Damage to the products caused by an external force.

• Electrical damaged due to any type of a power surge.

• Sacrificial parts which were designed to fail under mal-function of any other elements.

• The Warranty is null and void if any of the parts or products have been altered or tampered with.

• Acts of God.NO WARRANTY WILL BE ACKNOWLEDGED IF FULL PAYMENT HAS NOT BEEN MADE ON THE ORIGINAL INVOICE.

When does your Warranty start?

• The Warranty sets in on the day of purchase, which is determined by the date of invoice.

Please ensure that monthly maintenance checks are performed on your product and that your garage door and automation are professionally serviced once every 12 months. Wood is a living material. Timber Door Care Wood Oil must be applied to all six sides of a door panel immediately after installation and then once a month for the first 3 months. Thereafter, the door panels should be treated annually.

Prevention is better than cure… With numerous moving parts, it can be hard to tell if your Garage Door is becoming a bit worse for wear.

Professionally Servicing and Maintaining the integrity of your Garage Door is the best way to avoid accidents caused by the failure of parts that have become unreliable due to wear and tear, however, there are some checks you can do yourself at home to monitor the condition of your garage door. Catching a risk before it becomes a problem will save money in the long run and can play a fundamental role in the prevention of serious injury.

SAFETY NOTE: To avoid any accidents, it’s a good idea to let everyone in your household know that you are checking the garage door and that it is not to be opened or closed by anyone until you tell them you are finished.

The following tests and related maintenance should be performed in the following order:

Monthly visual inspection:

> Stand inside the garage with the garage door closed.

Look over the garage door hardware *springs *cables, look for wear or fraying.

*rollers

*pulleys

*mounting hardware, such as hinges, for signs of wear or damage.

Is the mounting hardware becoming loose?

> If something doesn’t look quite right – or doesn’t sound quite right – it could be the symptom of a more serious issue. Have the garage door system inspected and serviced by a trained service technician.

Monthly door balance test

> If your door is equipped with a garage door operator – close the door and disconnect the automatic opener.

> Once you are able to lift the door manually – Lift the door.

It should lift smoothly with little resistance and should remain fully open. If it is difficult to open or does not remain open, the door may be out of balance.

The balance of the door depends on the springs, which are notoriously dangerous to work with and should be serviced by a trained service technician.

Monthly reversing mechanism test (if your door is equipped with an automatic opener system)

Note: garage door openers manufactured after 1993, are required by SANS – IEC Standard No. 60335 – 2 – 95 to be equipped with a reversing mechanism as an added measure of safety to prevent entrapment. If your system does not have this feature, the replacement of your automatic operating system is recommended.

> With the door fully open, lay a piece of wood such as a section of a 2 x 4 on the floor in the centre of the garage door opening where the door would touch the floor. > Push your garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door.

> When the door strikes the wood, the door should automatically reverse. If the door does not automatically reverse, the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.

Monthly photo eye test (if your door is equipped with an automatic opener system)

> With the door fully open, push your garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door.

> Wave a long object, such as a broomstick, in front of one of the door’s photo eyes so it “breaks the beam.”

> The door should reverse. If it does not reverse and reopen, pull the broomstick out of the path of the closing door.

> Close the door.

> With the door in the closed position, clean the photo eyes with a soft, dry cloth.

> Gently adjust the photo eyes by hand if they appear to be out of alignment.

> Open the door and repeat the photo eye test.

If the door does not reverse and reopen, the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.

Monthly force settings test (if your door is equipped with an automatic opener system)

> With the door fully open, push your garage door opener’s transmitter or wall button to close the door.

> As the door is closing, hold up the bottom of the door with your hands outstretched and stiff.

If the door does not easily reverse and continues to close, pull your hands away immediately. The closing force is excessive and the door should be serviced by a trained service technician.

Semi-annual lubrication

> Apply a small amount of spray lubricant to the door’s hinges, rollers and tracks.

Timber Door Panels & Pine Jambs

> Apply Timber Door care Wood Oil to all six sides of the door panel immediately after installation and then once a month for the first 3 months. Thereafter the door panels should be treated annually.
